Experts dwell on Punjabi language

BATHINDA: A week-long national workshop on the “Teaching of Punjabi language and literature: problems and prospects” began on October 1 at the Central University of Punjab.

A week-long national workshop on the “Teaching of Punjabi language and literature: problems and prospects” began on October 1 at the Central University of Punjab. The workshop is being organised by the Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

The objective of the workshop is to enhance the teaching-learning potential of participants by acquainting them with content, pedagogies and changing dynamics of the teaching of Punjabi language and literature.

Professor RK Kohli presided over the inaugural session of the workshop. The chief guest was former Prof Jagbir Singh from Delhi University, who has around 40 years of teaching experience.

More than 40 faculty members from 32 institutes participated in the programme. TLC Director Prof VK Garg encouraged young faculty members to develop new interactive e-learning platforms for the study of Punjabi language with the help of latest technology. VK also motivated young faculty members to raise the standard of teaching. He said UGC’s online MOOCs courses have provided an opportunity to learn new things from any location and Punjabi teachers should think in this direction as well. Dr Ramanpreet Kaur briefed about topic of the workshop. Jagbir Singh spoke about medieval Punjabi literature. He spoke on the role of vedic scriptures in developing Indian learning practices. He also discussed similarities between Sanskrit and Punjabi Language.
