Bathinda, August 12

Stagnant water in many areas of the city poses a threat of outbreak of waterborne diseases. Rainwater can be seen accumulated on many roads in different areas of the city. Sewage overflow in several colonies has worsened the situation.

Residential areas in various parts of the city, including Shiv Colony, Civil Line, Bhagu Road, Model Town, Partap Nagar, Vasant Bihar, Baba Deep Singh Nagar, constantly face the danger of disease outbreak.

The parking area at the office of the Municipal Corporation, Bathinda, on the Mall road adjoining AC market, too has pools of stagnant water where mosquitoes breed.

While no case of malaria or dengue has been reported so far, the MCB officials and the district health authorities it seems have failed to take note of the situation.

Jagjit Singh, a resident, said the authorities concerned must ensure proper drainage and fogging.

Another resident, Nirmal Singh, said fogging had not taken place as yet. He said the health department’s claimed that they, along with MC teams, were jointly inspecting houses and government office was false.

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said, “We are monitoring the issues related to fogging and waterlogging on a priority basis. Fogging is going on in the city as per schedule and still, if there is a problem people can report the same. I will ensure that the complaint is redressed at the earliest.”
