2 in Ambala click photos while voting, booked

AMBALA: The police have booked two persons, including a spokesman of Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), for allegedly taking a picture inside a polling booth while casting vote and sharing it on the social media on Saturday.

The police have booked two persons, including a spokesman of Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), for allegedly taking a picture inside a polling booth while casting vote and sharing it on the social media on Saturday.

The case has been registered against Vikram Singh and Vivek Choudhary, residents of Lalana village. It is suspected that Vivek Choudhary, who has been booked in the case, is JJP’s spokesman for the state.

In his complaint to the police, Rampal, junior engineer, Panchayati Raj, alleged that he was deployed at booth No. 163 of Lalana village in Mullana Assembly constituency on May 12. The electronic voting machine (EVM )shown on the social media belonged to the same booth, he added.

The suspect, who according to media report took picture inside the booth, was registered as Vikram Singh, a resident of Lalana village. The suspect, who uploaded the picture as per media report, was registered in the voters list as Vivek Choudhary, a resident of Lalana village. Both have violated different sections of the RP Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case has been registered under Section 136 of the Representation of People Act and 171-F, 188, IPC, at the Sadar Police station. The police have started an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, JJP state spokesman Vivek Choudhary said, “I received a picture and only shared it on the social media. So far, I have no idea about the FIR. The government may have started playing tactics against us. I also don’t know who Vikram Singh is.”
