Patiala, October 21

Patiala MP Preneet Kaur inaugurated a two-day inter-college polytechnic state-level youth fest at Harpal Tiwana Auditorium here today. As many as 700 students from 32 colleges took part in the cultural fest. On the first day, vocal singing, essay writing, bhangra, poster-making, choreography, solo dance and folk songs competitions were organised.

Preneet Kaur expressed happiness over the fact that the fest was declared plastic-free to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Preneet Kaur said the district administration had launched a campaign to make Patiala a plastic-free city. She said she, along with Congress workers and Municipal Councilors (MC), would distribute jute bags in six vegetable markets in the district – two days before Diwali.

She said: “Under the campaign, more than 12 tonnes of plastic waste have been collected so far. I request the youngsters participating in the fest to keep their surroundings clean and plastic-free.” — TNS
