Close shave for schoolchildren as auto, car collide in Panchkula

PANCHKULA: Schoolchildren had a miraculous escape after the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling in collided head-on with a car coming from the wrong side on a road separating Sector 15 and the Industrial Area, Phase II, here this morning.

Schoolchildren had a miraculous escape after the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling in collided head-on with a car coming from the wrong side on a road separating Sector 15 and the Industrial Area, Phase II, here this morning.

The impact of the collision was so strong that the auto-rickshaw overturned after the mishap. Four children suffered minor injuries. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital. The children were discharged after administering first aid. The car driver fled from the spot after the accident.

According to information, there were seven LPG cylinders in the car. Had there been an explosion in the cylinders, it would have caused massive destruction to life and property as the road remains busy in the morning hours.

Sector 19 police chowki in-charge Susheel Kumar said the auto-rickshaw, which was ferrying schoolchildren, was coming from Dhakoli in Zirakpur. He said as soon as the auto reached near Sector 15, an Indica car, which was coming from the wrong side, collided head-on with the three-wheeler causing injuries to the children.

He said the auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Yogesh, also received injuries near the eye. He was also administered first aid.

On the complaint of Yogesh, the police have registered a case against the unidentified car driver and seized the four-wheeler along with the cylinders.
