Mohali, April 21

Poll fever has started gripping Mohali town with candidates intensifying their campaigning in the area.

Sitting Member of Parliament from Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency Prem Singh Chandumajra, who is again in the fray, opened his election campaign office in Sector 70 here today.

On the occasion, SAD-BJP combine candidate Prof Chandumajra said he would file his nomination papers on April 27 at Ropar.

“We opened the office here to facilitate our supporters and the public. Mohali is an important part of the entire constituency and we have special plans for residents here,” said the senior Akali leader.

Congress candidate Manish Tewari, who held an impressive rally in Sector 80 here yesterday with the help of Punjab Cabinet Minister and local MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu, has started holding meetings with local residents by visiting their areas to get the voters’ pulse.

“I have taken out a few roadshows and addressed some public meetings so far. There was unprecedented participation of people,” said Tewari, adding that such love and support was indicating that people wanted to vote for the Congress this time.

Bir Devinder Singh, candidate of the newly-formed Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali), who was first among all candidates in the fray in the constituency to sound the poll bugle, here is quite confident of winning people’s trust in the upcoming elections.

“People are fed up with the Congress and the Badals in Punjab. Though our nearest rival is the Congress, we have already formed our programme for Punjab to get the state’s people free from the Badals and the Congress men,” said Bir Devinder Singh, who has been holding rallies and ‘nukkad’ meetings with people of the area to apprise them of the party’s agenda.

Bir Devinder, who has opened his election campaign office near Gilco Valley on the Mohali-Kharar highway, said he would soon open small offices in different areas of the constituency to intensify his campaign.
