Chandigarh: High drama was witnessed when two youths entered a jewellery store at Burail in Sector 45 and robbed jewellery worth several lakhs at gunpoint on Friday evening.



Chandigarh: High drama was witnessed when two youths entered a jewellery store at Burail in Sector 45 and robbed jewellery worth several lakhs at gunpoint on Friday evening. The youths were chased and caught by the public near the spot. Chetan Chug, owner of the DC Jewellery store, reported that two persons visited  his store around 7.30 pm and asked him to show jewellery. As soon as he kept jewellery items on the counter, one of the accused pulled out a gun, while the other pulled out a knife. They then escaped with the tray of jewellery, which was kept on the counter. The store owner raised the alarm and chased the youths, who were caught with the help of local people near the civil dispensary. Sources said when the youths were caught, the jewellery items were not recovered from them. The sources said a dummy pistol, a knife and an iron rod were recovered from the duo, Raju and Rahul, both residents of Sector 29.  They were handed over to the police. TNS

Man’s body found hanging

Chandigarh: The decomposed body of an unidentified man was found hanging in a forest area of Sukhna Lake on Friday. The police claimed the victim committed suicide by hanging from a tree. TNS

Roads closed

Chandigarh: The MC will start recarpeting work on Junction 40  (the road   between Sector 28-29, 27-30, 27-28 and 29-30) and Junction 29 (the road between Sector 27-30, 19-27, 20-30 and 19-20). As a result, the roads will remain closed till November 21. TNS
