NEW DELHI:Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi was concluded in peaceful manner as the security was beefed up in and around the counting centres in the seven parliamentary constituencies of the national capital.

Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi was concluded in peaceful manner as the security was beefed up in and around the counting centres in the seven parliamentary constituencies of the national capital.

The Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate traffic management during the counting of votes to ensure hassle-free journey of commuters.

However, according a senior police official, Police Control Room received 23,730 calls and 18,825 blank calls but no calls was received regarding proceeding of counting in the seven Lok sabha constituencies.

More than 1,000 Delhi Police personnel were deployed at every counting centre along with one company from the CRPF and one company from the Delhi Armed Police. The deployment of security has been made in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission," the Delhi Police said in a statement.

The security at EVM strong rooms comprises three layers - the outer cordon, middle cordon and inner cordon. The inner cordon had personnel from the CRPF, the middle layer had personnel from the Delhi Armed Police and the outer layer had personnel from the district police.

A senior police official confirmed that while Northeast, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, East and Northwest parliamentary constituencies had deployment of 800 to 1,100 police personnel, and more personnel were deployed at the counting centres in the West Delhi and South Delhi constituencies.

The police statement said apart from police personnel, special branch and PCR were also pressed into service for crowd control around counting centres and to meet any contingency. The police is working in three shifts on May 23 - 6 am to 2 pm, 2 pm to 10 pm and if the results are not out by 10 pm, there will be police personnel deployed even after that.
