The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Abhishek Phutela today awarded one-year simple imprisonment to former Chandigarh Territorial Youth Congress president Vijay Pal Singh Dimpy. The court had held him guilty under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC and acquitted him under Section 420 of the IPC yesterday. Later, he was released on bail.

Former Punjab DGP SS Virk had filed a case against Dimpy under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC in 2014.

In the complaint, Virk had stated that he had four acres of land in his wife’s name at Kishangarh and the land was acquired by the UT Administration in 2004-05. The Administration had paid a compensation of nearly Rs 65 lakh for the acquired land.

Virk stated that he had started looking to buy land in Chandigarh and was introduced to Dimpy by an acquaintance. According to Virk, after they could not finalise the plots that Dimpy was showing, Dimpy asked him to pay some booking amount in case some appropriate land came to his notice.

Virk then issued a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to Dimpy and he kept showing him land. However, when the DGP did not find suitable land, he asked Dimpy to return the money. Dimpy allegedly kept on delaying the payment.

Defence counsel Terminder Singh said Dimpy was falsely implicated in the case and the money was returned to the DGP.
