4,200 cases of power theft unearthed

CHANDIGARH: The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) have unearthed over 4,200 cases of power theft to the tune of about Rs 7 crore during raids conducted recently at several places across the state.

The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) have unearthed over 4,200 cases of power theft to the tune of about Rs 7 crore during raids conducted recently at several places across the state. FIRs have been registered in most of the cases.

An official spokesman said the cases of electricity theft included more than 1,700 cases in all nine circles of the UHBVN in which fines totalling over Rs 3.19 crore had been imposed. Similarly, more than 2,500 cases of power theft had been detected in all nine circles of the DHBVN in which fines to the tune of more than Rs 3.76 crore had been imposed.

The spokesman also advised the consumers to get their old electro-mechanical meters replaced under the Voluntary Disclosure Scheme,2016, up to January 31.
