With the death of Satpal (35) in an accident involving a vehicle of CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s convoy near Taraori last evening, grief prevails in his village Takhana.

The six member family is unable to cope with the death of their sole bread earner. The youngest member, 6-year-old Rahul has been asking his elder siblings 13-year-old Sonia, 11-year-old Rohit and 9-year-old Neha when would his father return. The deceased worked as a painter.

He has also been inquiring from his mother Nirmala, who is unconscious since the incident.

When the body reached the village, people from surrounding areas attended the funeral. Nilokehri MLA Bhagwan Dass Kabirpanthi, OSD to CM Amrinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner J Ganesan, SP Abhishek Garg also paid homage at the cremation ground.

On the behalf of the CM, Amrinder Singh announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased. The Red Cross society has delivered a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the family.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister Anil Vij also expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.

He also visited the trauma centre and enquired about the well being of the two injured police personnel in the incident.

Karam Singh, a brother of the deceased, demanded a job for Satpal’s wife as she has four children and Satpal was the only bread earner.

The police have registered a case against the PCR driver for negligent driving, said the police.
