College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organised two-day workshop on “Improving small ruminant health and management for increasing learning outcomes amongst young vets”. The workshop was conducted under the  Institutional Development Plan- National Agriculture Higher Education Programme (IDP-NAHEP) programme. Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Dean-cum- Principal investigator of IDP project informed that a total of 50 BVSc. & A H students participated in this programme. He further added that IDP project is a World Bank project awarded by ICAR under National Agriculture Higher Education Programme. In this programme, university will organise various workshops/practical training programmes/visits to industries and other national and international institutes to improve the competency and skill of undergraduate students. 

For this workshop, Dr Paula Menzies, Professor Emeritus, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Canada, was special invitee and key speaker.  Theory and practical hands-on-training sessions were conducted related to improvement of management, production and health in sheep and goat. Dr Paula Menzies delivered talk on Biosecurity at goat farm, neonatal health care management and important bacterial and viral diseases of goats. 

The practicals were conducted on housing, nutrition and reproductive management, selection and judging of goats, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis using ultrasound, tuberculin & Brucella testing etc. Dr Rajesh Kasrija, Extension specialist deliberated on goat farming for entrepreneurship development. Dr V P Singh, Economist delivered lecture on economics of commercial goat farm. Dr Manish Chatli, delivered lecture on value addition of goat milk and meat for employment generation.
