The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which has just 85 members in Uttarakhand, is looking forward to increase its membership in the state.

CII first woman chairperson Rumjhum Chatterjee, while addressing mediapersons here today, said there were just 85 members of the CII in Uttarakhand and the confederation was looking forward to increase its membership in the state. She, however, said while increasing the membership, they would ensure that the quality was not compromised upon.

Chatterjee, who was on a maiden visit to Uttarakhand after becoming the chairperson of the CII, said the CII had played an important role post 2013 disaster and helped reconstruct a number of rain-hit schools in the state.

She said as far as industrialisation was concerned, the state needed better connectivity taking into account its tough geographical terrain.

She said the CII was observing 2016 as an agro-tech year. He said the agro-tech fair was scheduled for November 19 in Chandigarh and President Pranab Mukherjee would inaugurate the event.

State CII chairman Suresh Redhu was also present on the occasion.

Earlier, Rumjhum Chatterjee, chairperson, CII Northern Region, along with other state CII office-bearers met Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Chief Secretary Shatrughna Singh and Additional Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy and informed them about the initiatives proposed by the CII for Uttarakhand. They handed over a set of recommendations on enhancing the industrial competitiveness of Uttarakhand and said these recommendations could help the state to continue to attract fresh investments in the region.
