Mohali, July 16

Though the Mohali civic authorities have been turning a blind eye to the roads caving in at several places in the town, a doctor of a private hospital and her acquaintance had a narrow escape after her car got stuck inside a pit on the road last night.

The victim, Dr Isha Mittal, was negotiating a turn on the road separating Sectors 68 and 69 when her Maruti Zen got stuck inside a pothole on the road at 9.30 pm. “I was lucky as the car didn’t overturn and the tyre got stuck inside the pit. When I tried to get it out, it hit a tree,” said the doctor. “Adding insult to injury, the streetlight at the site was not functioning and it was dark,” said the doctor.

The matter was highlighted in these columns on July 12 but the authorities concerned are yet to take any action. At the incident site, the pit was illegally dug by a private telecom company in January. Apparently, it was not filled properly so the road caved in.

GMADA SDO Pankaj Mehmi had written to the Mohali police to register a case. But no action was taken. No GMADA official could be contacted for comments.
