The gruesome murder of UT Inspector Kashmir Singh remains a mystery. He was found dead in Dadumajra on August 2, 2008. He was bludgeoned to death and the incident came to light in the morning after the body was found lying in a pool of blood in a street.

The victim’s face was smashed with big pieces of concrete slabs and the body also bore stab wounds. There were deep cuts on the victim’s head. A bloodstained stone, used by assailants, was lying near the body.

Besides his wallet, Kashmir’s official motorcycle was found near his body. The police suspected that there were more than two killers. The police had claimed that an auto driver, identified as Balwinder Singh, alias Balla, was the prime suspect in the murder case and the body was found near the suspect’s house. Later, he went missing and was declared a PO (proclaimed offender). He is still at large

A detailed charge sheet against Balla was filed by the UT police in a local court in. Personnel from Sector 39 police station had summoned Balla after the murder, but released him on the surety of a local leader. The murder case was registered at the Sector 39 police station but transferred to the special crime investigation cell after the investigating team failed to make any headway in the case. The police even failed to ascertain the motive behind the killing.

Despite investigating the case from different angles, the police failed to solve the murder mystery. The case has been added to the list of unsolved murder cases in the history of UT police.
