Patiala, August 17

In a major boost to Parul Gupta's campaign, the Punjab National Bank (PNB) has approved Rs 1.84 lakh sponsorship for the hearing impaired tennis player to compete in the Slovenia Deaf Tennis Open 2016 scheduled to be held in Portoroz, Slovenia, from September 8 to 11.

As per the agreement, Parul will support the PNB logo on her sports kit, sportswear, T-shirt/track suit and cap.

Thanking Usha Ananthasubramanian, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Punjab National Bank, India, for sponsoring her campaign, Paruls' father Avinash Gupta said it was due to the cooperation from the bank that his daughter would be able to compete in the championship.

Gupta, an employee of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, along with his wife Madhu, a teacher at Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, exhausted all his savings on training Parul and sponsoring her to various competitions in the past.

However, finding it difficult to fund her future training and travel in the absence of sponsors, the parents had approached the Punjab Government and other institutions to sponsor her but to no avail.
