Over 70,000 cases settled in Lok Adalat

As many as 79,309 cases were settled in the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday throughout the state.

As many as 79,309 cases were settled in the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday throughout the state.

A total of 97,887 cases were identified from all courts of the state.

A compensation of around Rs 6.54 crore had been awarded in motor accidents claim cases and Rs 4.61 crore was recovered in pre-litigation matters, such as recovery of bank loan cases and cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The Lok Adalat in the state has disposed of 81.02 per cent of the cases and succeeded in reducing the pendency of cases in the Subordinate Courts by 27.18 per cent.

In the HP High Court, 42 of the 111 cases were settled. Apart from this, Mandi district has taken a lead by disposing of 17,726 cases by amicable settlement.

The Kullu Sessions Division has disposed of 17,208 cases, Shimla 12,558, Hamirpur 7,086, Solan 8,565, Sirmaur 5,027, Kangra 3,512, Bilaspur 2,054, Kinnaur 2,014, Una 1,761 and Chamba 1,756. The Chief Justice and Judges of the high court have appreciated the work of judicial officers and the entire judicial fraternity for the successful organisation and conduct of the Lok Adalat.
