SC refuses to reconsider separatist Faktoo’s life term

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed separatist leader Ashiq Hussain Faktoo’s plea to reconsider his conviction and life term.

New Delhi, August 30

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed separatist leader Ashiq Hussain Faktoo’s plea to reconsider his conviction and life term.

Radical Islamic group Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi Asiya Andrabi’s husband Faktoo, alias Dr Mohammad Qasim, is Kashmir’s longest serving separatist leader — has spent more than two decades in prison. He was sentenced in 2003 for the murder of human rights activist HN Wanchoo on December 5, 1992.

A Jammu court acquitted Faktoo in 2001, but the Supreme Court overturned the verdict. In prison, he completed his doctorate in Islamic studies. — Agencies
