Panchkula, May 24

The dust storm last evening left many sectors without electricity for several hours.

Some of the households spent the entire night without power supply. The power could be restored only at around 3.30 pm today.

Reports of power supply getting hit came from Sectors 15, 16, 17, 4, 7 and others.

Residents said power outage of average 12 to 20 hours has become frequent now while there was no such problem earlier.

Several areas of Sector 17 remained without power till afternoon today.

The situation was similar in Sector 15 LIG-Housing Board Colony last week as there was no power supply for about 13 hours. The supply was restored only after the intervention of BS Ranga, Executive Engineer, UHBVNL, Panchkula.

Further, there was a power breakdown for about 20 hours in the MDC, Sector 4.

“Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL) was doing well for the past two to three years giving quality power supply. However, the problem of electricity cuts has gone from bad to worse over the last about a month or so,” SK Nayar, president, Citizens’ Welfare Association.

Ranga claimed, “There is no such problem in the district. There could be some sporadic cases; otherwise power supply had been normal.”

Though the district has no scheduled power cuts, residents have been complaining of erratic supply for the past 10 days or so.
