Jind, January 28
The Jind byelection on Monday saw a 76 per cent turnout, with rural voters exhibiting more enthusiasm than those in the cities. A total of 1,30,913 of the 1,72,774 voters in the Assembly segment cast their ballot.
The DC-cum-District Electoral Officer, Amit Khatri, said the polling was peaceful. “There was no untoward incident. Police personnel deployed at the polling stations ensured free and fair polling,” he said. According to figures provided by the district administration, the turnout in villages touched 84 per cent. In the urban areas, the polling percentage was 71 per cent. In 2014, an almost similar polling percentage was recorded in the segment when 1,21,276 of a total 1,59,000 voters cast their vote. — TNS
