Chandigarh, July 20

The government on Friday decided that academic qualification for future recruitment to the post of gram sachiv would be graduation instead of matriculation. The candidate should have diploma in panchayati raj and knowledge of information technology as well.

A decision to this effect was taken at a review meeting of different schemes held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Development and Panchayats Minister Om Prakash Dhankar was also present at the meeting.

Khattar said the number of posts of gram sachiv would be increased. At present, there were about 2,200 gram sachivs  even as there were more than 6,000 panchayats in the state. There should be one gram sachiv for one big panchayat or two small panchayats.

There were 2,294 clusters in the state, under which 1,783 gram sachivalayas had been set up and funds allocated to 511. Classification of gram sachivalayas should be done to know their actual area and facilities required and accordingly, development of gram sachivalayas should be carried out.
