5 killed after truck rams into car

SOLAN: Five persons of a family, including a three-year old girl and two women, were killed when the car by which they were travelling was crushed between two trucks at Behral inter-state barrier at Paonta Sahib late last night.

Five persons of a family, including a three-year old girl and two women, were killed when the car by which they were travelling was crushed between two trucks at Behral inter-state barrier at Paonta Sahib late last night.

The family was returning to Paonta Sahib from Saharanpur when the mishap occurred. Those killed include Sana (3), Nanki (57), Nisha (45), Yasin Ali (41) and the driver Rakesh Kumar (26). Those injured in the mishap were Anguri, Nazira and Absena. They were rushed to the local civil hospital for treatment.

The mishap occurred when the car was awaiting its turn at the inter-state barrier with a truck ahead of it. A speeding truck from behind it rammed into the car which crushed the occupants killing five of them. The bodies of the victims were reduced to smithereens with the impact of the accident.

The driver of the truck which had rammed his vehicle into the car fled the spot. Efforts were under way to trace him, police said adding that they were able to establish contact with the owner of the truck and the driver’s whereabouts would be tracked soon.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the truck driver and further investigations were on.
