Kullu, Manali reel under intense cold

The entire valley experienced further dip in the mercury due to intermittent snowfall on the higher reaches and rains lashing the lower regions of the district since yesterday. Tourist spots of Solang Nala, Kothi, Nehru Kund and Gulaba were covered with fresh snow.

Due to the ongoing spell of snowfall, the 13,050-foot-high Rohtang Pass, along with Dhundhi, Makardev, Shikardev, Hamta, Manalsu, Manikaran, Bijli Mahadev, Jalori and other peaks of the district, were covered with thick blanket of snow.

The mercury remained below freezing point as Manali experienced a low of -0.4°C and Kullu experienced a low of 4.3°C. Rain restrained the residents from moving out, however, schools and other institutions remained functional.

Vehicular traffic on link roads of Byasar, Dalighat, Barshaini, Malana and many others in Banjar and Manali region was also disrupted. However, there were no reports of any major loss due to the prevailing inclement weather. Electricity and telecommunication services also remained unhampered in the town.
