Acharya Devvrat, Governor, asked agriculture scientists to reach out to farmers with the technological innovations and research work to enhance their production. Their research should not be confined to the labs only.

The Governor was addressing members of the Senate of the agriculture university here last evening. It was vital that the farmers were made aware with the advancements in the agriculture sector to enhance their production and to double their income by 2022.

He said agriculture universities, particularly Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVVs) in the state, had a role in organising training programmes for farmers, women, the youth and officials of the Agriculture Department to make them aware about the latest technologies in the sector.

The modern technology must reach the farmers for their benefits. He stressed the need for organising short and long-term vocational training courses on vegetable, floriculture, bee-keeping, dairying, mushroom, organic farming and protective cultivation, etc for the rural youth to promote self-employment.

Addressing Senate members, Dr Ashok Sarial, Vice-Chancellor, said the university was doing well in the agriculture sector. He said the KVV had also taken a number of pro-farmer projects at the behest of the Governor, who was also the Cchancellor of the university.

He suggested that agriculture scientists should act as facilitators and added that doubling farmers income by 2022 was a challenge and the state government should adopt modern technologies to achieve the the targets.
