Renowned Kashmiri writer Ghulam Gowhar dies

SRINAGAR: Noted writer, poet and a former District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Gabi Gowhar passed away after a prolonged illness at his Kralpora residence near here on Monday night.



Srinagar, June 19

Noted writer, poet and a former District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Gabi Gowhar passed away after a prolonged illness at his Kralpora residence near here on Monday night. He was 85.

Gowhar was laid to rest at Kralpora in nearby Budgam district on Tuesday afternoon. A large number of people, including writers, poets, lawyers and judges, attended the funeral prayers. Gowhar had written several books on Sufi saint Sheikh Nooruddin Wali and other subjects.

Governor NN Vohra expressed grief over the demise of Ghulam Nabi Gowhar. In his message, the Governor has prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Meanwhile, the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organised a condolence meeting, which was presided over by its vice-president Zafar Iqbal Manhas. JKAACL secretary Aziz Hajini described Gowhar as a great lover of the Kashmiri language. — TNS
