Armed men attack dera, one killed, six injured

JALANDHAR: A person was killed and six others were injured after unidentified armed assailants attacked members of a Jalandhar-based dera on Sunday night.

Jalandhar, May 21

A person was killed and six others were injured after unidentified armed assailants attacked members of a Jalandhar-based dera on Sunday night.

The assailants armed with sticks struck at the dera called as Dera Pota by residents of the area.

It is run by Mahant Sonia and situated at Jandu Singha village. As per residents, there were four to six armed men.

The deceased has been identified as Sandeep, a resident of the Jandu Singha village.

At the time of attack, workers of the dera and visitors were sleeping.

The accused also decamped with Rs 25,000 in cash and around two tola-gold ornaments from the dera.

The police said the motive behind the attack was yet to be known.

Adampur Deputy Superintendent of Police Gurwinder Singh said, “The motive behind the attack is not cleared. Though the accused looted cash and gold from the dera, the angle of personal enmity is also being looked into. The accused were armed with blunt weapons.”

“A case under Sections 460, 458 and 462 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused. Investigations are on to identify the accused and they will be arrested soon,” the Deputy Superintendent of Police added.
