In a move to deal with people creating obstacle in removing the girders being installed illegally in the streets, thus restricting the movement of vehicles, the team of Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur (MCH) has now geared up.

Earlier too, the MCH teams had attempted to remove the same. The corporation’s team had gone to remove the girders in the streets of the city, which had to face resistance from some local people and could not remove the girders.

Now the District Magistrate has written a letter to the SSP after the Assistant Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation demanded security of police to remove the girders causing obstacles in the streets of the city.

DM has said police security should be provided to the municipal team going to remove the girders so that the girders installed illegally in the streets be removed and there’s no obstacle in the way of the restoration of the law.

During this entire action, Tehsildar Hoshiarpur would remain deployed as Duty Magistrate under whose chairmanship this action will be taken. The matter related to streets being illegally restricted for vehicles by some influential people was raised by Rajiv Vashisht, the Chairman of the RTI Awareness Forum Punjab after which the municipal officials had come into action and the action was taken to remove the girders at the street entrances, but due to the opposition of some people the employees of the corporation were not successful in removing the girders.

After this, the Assistant Commissioner had written a letter to the District Magistrate asking him to direct the district police to provide security to municipal staff.

Fact file

The decision has been taken in the wake of the incidents in the past when the corporation team had to face resistance from the local people while removing illegal girders in the streets. These girders used to restrict the movement of vehicles. Now, the corporation team will be provided security from people obstructing removal of girders.
