Following the directions of the apex court, 4,500 applications of farmers, who have not set stubble on fire, have been received in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, out of which 3,988 have been uploaded on portal, said Deputy Commissioner Vinay Bublani here today.

Bublani said 229 farmers so far had been served environment compensation notices in the district whereas 50 FIRs were registered. Similarly, 178 farmers’ land records have been marked with red entries that would bar them from any type of farm benefits in future.

Reviewing the status of the applications for financial assistance and stubble burning cases, Bublani said that the online applications must be verified offline to avoid any wrong entry. Asking all the SDMs present in the meeting to expedite the verification process besides making red entries in the land records of the errant farmers, he added that nobody should be included in the list having issued environment compensation notice for setting paddy straw on fire.

The DC also warned the farmers that legal action would be initiated against them if they were found enlisted for financial help by misleading the authorities. He also cautioned the sarpanches to verify the claims of the farmers at the initial stage very carefully. He also directed the officials concerned to make it sure that only marginal and small farmers were included in the financial assistance list.

Among those who attended the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioners Aditya Uppal and Sarabjit Singh Walia, SDMs Jagdish Singh Johal Nawanshahr, Jasbir Singh Balachaur and Gautam Jain Banga and DR (Cooperative Societies) Bhupinder Singh.
