Poetry workshop organised on Mother Language Day

PHAGWARA: International Mother Language Day was celebrated on Tuesday at Kamla Nehru College for Women (KNCW), Phagwara, by the PG Department of Punjabi.

International Mother Language Day was celebrated on Tuesday at Kamla Nehru College for Women (KNCW), Phagwara, by the PG Department of Punjabi.

Raman Sandhu, famous poet and Dr Navjot Kaur, principal, Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar, and a famous literary personality, were among the guests at the celebrations.

To mark the occasion, an interactive session and poetry writing workshop was organised in which Raman Sandhu was the resource person. Speaking on the occasion, he gave tips to students about the technique of writing poetry and also narrated the poems written by him.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Navjot Kaur motivated the students to stay connected to their roots and to become confident and self-dependent women of today.

Principal of the college Dr Kiran Walia welcomed the guests and thanked them for their valuable advice to the students. She also encouraged the students to respect their mother tongue.

Earlier, the department had organised a story-writing competition in which Parminder Kaur, Ria Sachdeva, Sumanjeet and Prabhnoor secured the first, second, third and consolation prize, respectively. Head of Punjabi department, Dr Ruminder Kaur, thanked the guests while Dr Gurpreet Kaur conducted the stage.
