The Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) held a convention at the Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall on Wednesday against casteism. Held under the leadership of Rattan Singh Randhawa, Lal Chand Kataruchak, Kulwant Singh Sandhu, Dashan Nahar, and Neelam Ghumman, the people from across the state participated in the convention in huge numbers.

In the beginning of the convention, the congregation observed a two minute silence for the victims of the Kathua gang rape, Unau gang rape and the Dalit youth who was killed in Gujarat.

The anti-caste convention was addressed by the RMPI general secretary of the RMPI Magat Ram Pasla, Lahori Ram Bali of the Republican Party, Dalit advocate SL Virdi, scholar Dr Karamjit Singh, RMPI state secretary Harkanwal Singh, RPI leader Santosh Kumari among others.

Speakers talked about the acts of violence and discrimination against Dalits for the past many years, they stressed that the acts of atrocities in the country against Dalits and women had increased in recent times.

The revision proposed in the SC/ST Act was also condemned, the leaders said the farmers and workers need to unite against increase in the onslaught on minorities in the country.

A resolution was also passed on the occasion that SC/ST Act be brought under the 7th schedule of the constitution.

The congregation also paid tributes to the 11 persons who died in Tuticorin while holding anti-sterlite protests, fighting for the cause of ecological conservation.
