Out of 23,213 polling booths in the state, webcasting would be held at more than 6,000 booths. Chief Election Officer Punjab S Karuna Raju said, “This is being done keeping in mind sensitive nature of these booths.”

While addressing a workshop organised for industrialists, NRIs and third gender, among others, at Bachat Bhawan today, Raju appealed all stakeholders to participate in the upcoming 2019 General Election.

He said, “The Election Commission of India is committed to conduct the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls in a fair and transparent manner. It is not possible without an active support of vigilant voters. He said more than 2.03 crore voters of Punjab will participate in the General Election.”

He said every single vote counts during elections and as a result we should exercise our franchise.

He said some people think that electronic voting machine (EVM) can be tampered with, which is not true as this machine does not have any instrument that can lead to hacking.

Raju said over 2.5 lakh first time voters have got themselves registered. He asked the industrialists to keep their units closed on the polling day and should motive their employees to vote.

He said publication of voter lists has been completed on January 31 and the remaining voter cards would be distributed to the voters at the earliest.
