Ludhiana, July 11

The members of the 108 Ambulance Employees’ Association were on strike against the non-fulfilment of their demands on Wednesday.

Their suspended services for the entire day alleging that in May the authorities had promised to fulfil all their demands after they went on strike, but their demands were still not implemented.

Their demands included replacing 12-hour duty with 8-hour duty, rollback of termination and transfer orders of few employees, full deposits in Provident Fund accounts and issuing increment of five years, among other demands.

“We were left with no other option but to go on strike. It has been nearly three months now that the authorities promised us to fulfil all our demands, but nothing has been done regarding the same,” said Gurpreet, president of the state union.

Another member Gurtej Singh said their one major demand was that they should get their salaries on time by the seventh of every month and this was their right.
