The Dyeing Industry is sore over the behaviour of the district administration which has ordered to shut the units (operations) till next orders. Industrialists said they were in deep trouble as the orders were not being executed and material was stocked inside. In this scenario, all their payments would get stuck.

The industrialists said it was unfortunate that the threat of flood looms large over the city, but why should they be penalised by shutting their units? Not just the dyeing factories, but domestic and commercial establishments were also releasing their waste into Buddha Nullah, but only dyeing units were taken to task, they added.

Rajat Sood from the Ludhiana Dyeing Association said from Eid to Bandh and now floods, the dyeing units were totally shut.

“We are bound by export orders which we need to deliver on time or else they will cancel the orders or issue a debit note. We are unable to execute the orders and if these will be late, we need to send it by airways, which will be too expensive as compared to waterways. We are going to incur huge losses as no work is going on in the Dyeing Industry,” rued Sood.

Voicing similar views, Bobby Jindal, General Secretary of the Punjab Dyers Association, said on Friday, though the DC had given orders to open units on Bahadurke Road, there were just 10-12 units on that particular road. A majority of dyeing houses were on Tajpur Road and Focal Point but they were not allowed to start operations, he added.

There are around 250 dyeing units in the city, out of which 100 are located at Tajpur Road while about 70 are in Focal Point area and remaining are scattered in areas, including Industrial Area, Moti Nagar, Bahadurke Road etc.
