Despite an inquiry which is pending, construction reportedly came up at a small piece of vacant land along the telephone exchange near Dholewal Chowk. Some shopkeepers of the area alleged that the construction took place on Monday night as per a CCTV footage.
A shopkeeper, whose building is near the construction site, said: “We had earlier complained to a civic body that some persons are raising construction on encroached land by violating the law. The construction work was stalled after our complaint. But some persons have erected shop structure last night. A shutter has also been installed at the shop. The Municipal Corporation authorities should take strict action in this regard.”
“We have a CCTV footage that the shop was setup last night by using iron-made structure. The matter should be probed in a fair manner and required action should be taken to protect this vacant land. The question is raised as to why some persons came to erect shop structure last night when the nearby market was closed,” said another shopkeeper.
The MC’s Assistant Town Planner, Harwinder Singh, said they had already stalled the work as inquiry into the matter was underway. “A person had showed us some documents regarding the land. We had sent the documents to revenue department for further verification. However, we have not obtained any report in this case. We will check the construction at site and take required action.”
