Rs 20-lakh fraud: Three booked

Ludhiana: The police have booked three persons on the charge of committing a fraud of Rs20 lakh on the pretext of arranging a government job in the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The accused have been identified as Rajinder Singh, resident of Fateh Ulapur, SAS Nagar; Baljit Singh, a resident of Dhandari and Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Bohr village, Ludhiana. Complainant Balwant Singh of SAS Nagar said the accused had taken Rs20 lakh from him to arrange a job in the Food and Civil Supplies Department and despite taking the money, he could not arrange a job. He submitted his complaint to the Police Commissioner, who had marked an inquiry, following which a case was registered. No arrest has been made in the case so far. In a similar case, the Sadar police have also booked one Rajinder Singh of Deep Nagar on the charge of committing fraud of Rs3 lakh on the pretext of arranging a government job. Complainant Gurcharan Singh of New Janta Nagar told the police that despite giving the amount, the accused failed to arrange a job. He is yet to be arrested. TNS

Snatchers’ gang busted; 2 held 

Ludhiana: The Focal Point police have arrested two members of mobile snatchers’ gang and recovered six looted mobile phones from them. The accused have been identified as Bagga Singh (23), a resident of Shimlapuri and Jatnider Singh, alias Dana, a resident of Shimlapuri. Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, SHO Focal Point police station, said a tip-off was received and accordingly a naka was set up at Khaibar Chowk. After intercepting the auto-rickshaw, it was stopped and the occupants were arrested. The SHO said the accused used to target passengers, who used to board their auto-rickshaw. They used to take the auto to some isolated place and then loot passengers. Inspector Brar said during preliminary questioning, the accused told the police that they had snatched these mobile phones from various areas of the city and in the recent past had committed dozens of mobile snatchings. The police remand of the accused would be sought so that more recoveries of looted mobile phones could be made in further probe. TNS
