CHANDIGARH: Battling an acute shortage of adjudicating members, the Chandigarh Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) disposed of 366 cases in two marathon sessions by constituting a special Bench on November 26 and 27, setting a record of sorts.

Woman, newborn die after drunk doc conducts delivery  

Ahmedabad: A doctor in Gujarat’s Botad district has been arrested for allegedly conducting a delivery in an inebriated state leading to the death of the mother and the newborn, the police said. According to the police, Kaminiben Chanchiya (22) was brought to Botad’s government-run Sonawala Hospital on Monday and the delivery was conducted by Dr PJ Lakhani. The newborn girl child died followed by mother’s death, prompting the victim’s kin to accuse the doctor of negligence. “The police found that the doctor was drunk while on duty. His blood sample was sent for testing,” the police said. PTI
