Four days after a breach in the Ghaggar near Phullad village, the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Army and locals had plugged 50-ft of it till Sunday evening. However, water is still flowing from the remaining 50-ft breach.

Lack of passage till the breach site has been delaying the plugging operations. The water level in the Ghaggar has gone down to 749.03 ft from 750 ft of last evening and some Drainage Department officers expect that downward trend will increase in coming hours.

“Our house is inundated for the past two days and we have not been able to cook food,” said Gaganpal Kaur, a Class X student of Moonak.

“The ministers and officers should come to our houses to see our plight and take quick action,” said Mahinder Singh, father of Gaganpal.

AAP Lehra halqa incharge Jasvir Singh Kudni said the state government should immediately order the release of relief for area farmers.

“Two snakes, pushed towards houses by the Ghaggar water, have been killed by villagers and the water level has been increasing continuously,” said Kulwant Kaur of Surjan Bhaini village.

Sangrur DC Ghanshyam Thori said special teams of the Health and Veterinary Departments had been deputed in all affected villages, while PSPCL executive engineers had also been sent to take care of power supply.
