Gopal Krishna Gokhale

A VERY interesting function was performed by His Excellency the Viceroy on Friday last when he unveiled the marble bust of the late Mr. Gokhale, which has been placed in the main entrance to the Council Chamber at Delhi. The bust, as Sir William Meyer explained in inviting His Excellency to perform the ceremony, has been subscribed for by the European members of the Legislative Council. The Indian members, said Sir William, had presented to the Council the busts of two eminent European officials, the late Sir John Jenkins and Sir Guy Fleetwood Wilson, and the European members thought that they could not do better than return the compliment by presenting the bust of Mr. Gokhale. We have no hesitation in congratulating the European subscribers for the bust on the political acumen shown by them.
