MADRID: The Spanish king’s brother-in-law began a six-year jail sentence on Monday, drawing a line under a long-running corruption scandal that enraged the public and brought shame on the royal family.

MADRID: The Spanish king’s brother-in-law began a six-year jail sentence on Monday, drawing a line under a long-running corruption scandal that enraged the public and brought shame on the royal family. Inaki Urdangarin, the husband of King Felipe’s sister Cristina, arrived at a prison north of Madrid early on Monday. The former Olympic handball player was sentenced to five years and 10 months of prison for embezzling millions of euros in a case which caused uproar and even contributed to the abdication of Felipe’s father. London: Anger over a British MP’s decision to block a bill to make “upskirting” a criminal offence in the UK manifested itself in an unusual way in the House of Commons with some of its staff decorating his office with women’s underwear. Conservative MP Christopher Chope faced widespread criticism, including from PM Theresa May for blocking the law last week under which someone secretly taking a photo up a woman’s skirt in the country could have faced up to two years in prison.
