Over 30,000 members added to welfare scheme in Barnala

BARNALA: To ensure that no person is deprived of the benefits of various welfare schemes started by the state government, the Barnala administration has registered 31,733 new beneficiaries under the Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY) scheme in the district.

To ensure that no person is deprived of the benefits of various welfare schemes started by the state government, the Barnala administration has registered 31,733 new beneficiaries under the Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY) scheme in the district.

Barnala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dharam Pal Gupta informed that the Guardians of Governance (GOG) had identified 48,499 residents in Barnala district, who were eligible for benefits under various government schemes. He said after a thorough checking of the applications of 48,499 residents, 34,064 were found to be eligible, out of which 31,733 were registered under various welfare schemes of the state government and were being given benefits under these schemes.

“The main purpose of the scheme is to provide the benefits of welfare schemes to indebted farmers, poor families that have a woman as a sole bread-earner, families of AIDS patients, school drop-out children, martyred soldiers, differently-abled, abandoned old persons, drug addicts, etc. Only those beneficiaries are covered under the scheme whose annual income is less than Rs 60,000 or they should have less than 2.5 acres of land,” said the Deputy Commissioner.

The government schemes covered under the Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna are shagun, Atta-Dal, pensions, SC- BC Loan, Ghar Ghar Rozgar, disability certificates, Mudra Loan and Post-Matric Scholarship.
