Mohali, January 20
The police today claimed to have nabbed four associates of the Sampat Nehra-Lawrence Bishnoi gang with arms and ammunition.
The suspects have been identified as Darshan Singh of Dera Bassi, Manish Kumar of Patiala and, Suraj and Bhagat Singh, both residents of Kurali. They were absconding in murder cases.
The police have recovered three pistols, a gun and 17 rounds of ammunition from them. A case under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against them at the Kurali City police station yesterday.
Mohali SSP Satinder Singh said the Kurali police received a tip-off that a few members of the gang were active in the area and might commit some crime.
The Kurali City SHO, along with a team, arrested the suspects with weapons. Darshan Singh was absconding in a murder case registered at the Civil Lines Bhiwani police station on November 1, 2017. He is a co-accused along with Deepak Tinu in this case. Manish Kumar was involved in a murder case registered at the Julka police station in Patiala district in 2016.
Sampat Nehra and Lawrence Bishnoi are lodged in jail. The Bishnoi gang is involved in dacoities, murders and extortion in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, the suspects told the police that they were ready to strike at the targets given to them by their jail inmates. Recently, they were involved in a firing incident reported at Malerkotla, said the police.
