Several lives lost to falling trees in past in Chandigarh

The death of a girl student due to the falling of a tree is not the first such case in the city. A 35-year-old man died and his younger brother was injured after a tree fell on them while they were riding a motorcycle in Sector 10 on August 13, 2018. Both were residents of Nayagaon and were going to work when the mishap took place.

The victims, Dinesh Singh and Ramesh Singh, were working at a cloth store in Sector 17, were on their way to work when the tree fell on them. Dinesh suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the PGI, where doctors declared him brought dead. Ramesh suffered injuries and he survived the accident. Dinesh was riding pillion at the time of the incident.

In a similar incident, a 27-year-old motorcyclist died and 25-year-old pillion rider was injured when a tree fell near the Kali Mata Mandir in Dhanas on March 15, 2020. The incident took place during heavy rain. The victim was identified as Rajinder, who was declared brought dead when he was taken to the PGIMER. He was a resident of Nayagaon.

In another incident, a 45-year-old resident of Raipur Kalan died after a tree fell on his scooter during rain near Makhan Majra on February 5, 2021. The deceased was identified as Shankar Adhikari. Shankar was badly injured in the incident and was rushed to the GMCH-32, where doctors declared him brought dead.

In another incident, an auto-rickshaw driver was killed after a tree fell on the auto in Sector 37 on July 11, 2019. The auto driver was identified as Naresh Kumar (46) of Maloya. Naresh was waiting to pick up his daughter outside a government school in Sector 37 when the incident took place. The tree smashed the windscreen of the auto and hit the driver.
