A 20-year-old was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Ranje Di Haveli locality on Tarn Taran Road on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Saina, a resident of Rajpura in Patiala.

Police officers suspect it to be a case of drug overdose as her friends were trying to cremate the body secretly.

They said the victim had come to meet Jaggu, a resident of the Ranje Di Haveli area. According to the cops, Jaggu resides with a girl in live-in relationship.

The cops said Saina used to visit here and also meet Mani, alias Chugga, and Ravinder Kumar, alias Gusshi.

Bhupinder Singh, in charge of the Shaheed Udam Singh Nagar police post, said, “The victim and her friends had consumed some drugs on Monday night. There is a possibility that Saina might have died of drug overdose. On Tuesday afternoon, we got a tip-off that Jaggu, Mani and Ravinder were trying to cremate the body secretly. We have raided the spot and took the body in possession. The body has been sent for postmortem. The exact cause of death will be ascertained after getting the postmortem report.”

A case under Sections 304 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Jaggu, Mani and Ravinder.

The police said they did not get any id proof of the victim from the body.
