A 32-year-old homeless man died after falling from the foot overbridge into a 20 feet deep chamber meant installing lift at the GT Road on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Vicky, a native of Uttarakhand.

Visitors at the BRTS station spotted the body in a pool of blood on Friday morning and informed the police.

During preliminary investigation, the police found that Vicky, a homeless, was a daily wager. He used to sleep on the bridge. Police officials claimed that the victim was addicted to liquor and it seemed that he was under the influence of liquor when the mishap took place.

The BRTS authorities had placed a tin to avert such an incident. The victim may have hit the tin with a considerable force under the influence of liquor that resulted in his fall. His head hit an iron rod installed in the pillar.

Jaspreet Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (East), said, “He used to sleep on the foot overbridge. He fell into the lift box accidentally. We are investigating the matter.”

The Maqboolpura police have sent the body for postmortem.

It is worth mentioning here that the BRTS is yet to install the lifts at its stations.
