The state government is committed to uplift the living standard of below poverty line people (BPL) through initiation of various people oriented schemes. Captain Amarinder Singh has fulfilled another promise by increasing the amount of various types of pensions from Rs 500 to Rs 750. Under the Ashirwad Scheme, the amount has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 21,000 and Rs 3.5 crore has been deposited in bank accounts of 46,061 beneficiaries under various schemes till May.

This was stated by Fatehgarh Sahib legislator Kuljit Singh Nagra after distributing sanction certificates of various pension schemes among beneficiaries at Nabi Pur village on Thursday.

“The district Social Security Department has been directed to hold camps in the rural areas to sort out pension-related problems of senior citizens, handicapped, widows and dependents,” he added. Identity cards were being issued to senior citizens and physically challenged on the spot, he said.

“The Punjab government is committed to fulfil all promises made by Capt Amrainder Singh. Soon, the people will start getting sugar, tea leaves and ghee as promised. The government has initiated the process to distribute smart phones and provide ‘Ghar Ghar Naukri’,” he added.
