J&K recorded 22 Covid deaths (14 in the Jammu province and eight in Kashmir) during the past 24 hours, thus taking the toll to 1,084 across the UT. As many as 801 deaths have been reported in Kashmir and 283 in the Jammu province.

However, 1,104 new positive cases (624 in the Jammu province and 480 in Kashmir) were reported during the same period. With 1,104 new cases, Covid tally in J&K reached 68,614.

The official bulletin issued on Thursday said out of 68,614 positive cases, 19,451 were active, 48,079 had recovered and 1,084 died. The bulletin said out of 14,87,962 test results available, 14,19,348 samples had tested negative.

Meanwhile, the Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo, today convened a meeting to review the preparedness of hospitals to prevent deaths.

The Financial Commissioner sought information from the senior officers regarding the availability of isolation beds in the hospitals with or without oxygen facility, ventilators, doctors and other medical staff for consultancy of patients and rounds of the wards. The officers concerned apprised the Financial Commissioner of their preparedness to deal with emergency and other cases.

Expressing concern over some deaths occurred recently, the Financial Commissioner directed the officers to strictly follow the treatment protocol and said any kind of negligence in this regard would be dealt with strictly.
