As the 67th National Film Awards for the year 2019 have been announced, Punjabi film Rabb Da Radio 2 and Haryanvi film Chhorriya Chhoron Se Kam Nahi Hoti have been named best films in the respective categories. Rabb Da Radio 2 starring Tarsem Jassar and Simi Chahal is a sequel to the 2017 flick with the same name. Based on family ties and values of Punjab, it has a message at its core. On the other hand, Chhorriya Choron Se Kam Nahi Hoti is a story of a young girl who aspires to become an IPS officer but faces opposition from her own conservative father who thinks a woman’s place is in the kitchen.

Sharan Art, director Rabb Da Radio 2, says, “I feel elated. To be recognised for your effort and vision on the national platform fills you up with hope and courage to dream big. It is a historic moment for every film to be listed in the National Awards.”

If Sharan says it means bringing Punjabi cinema to a deserving platform, the film’s producer Manpreet Johal thinks there is no bigger accomplishment for a filmmaker than to win country’s highest cinematic honour. The lead actor of Chhorriya Chhoron Se Kam Nahi Hoti, Annirudh Dave agrees with the thought. For him National Award is the most important award. “I feel very special to be associated with a film that symbolises content is the real hero. This acclaim is a sign of acceptance for any film that has its heart at the right place, no matter what the budget or language,” he says.

The film brought its lead actress Rashmi Somvanshi face-to-face with Haryanvi culture and she feels, “I am thrilled that the film has been selected by a respectable jury. That speaks volumes.”
