161 CRs elected unopposed in Sonepat varsity

SONEPAT: On the eve of student union elections, campaigning in various departments and other affiliated institutes of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan, was in full swing on Tuesday.

On the eve of student union elections, campaigning in various departments and other affiliated institutes of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan, was in full swing on Tuesday. Students carrying hand-written posters and banners were seeking votes for their candidates.

According to university’s Chief Election Officer, Prof Vijay Nehra, out of the 161 posts of Class Representatives (CR), 125 had already been elected unopposed. As many as 5,027 eligible voters from 15 educational departments, three institutes, two regional centres and one affiliated college would cast their votes on Wednesday to elect the remaining 36 CRs.

He said the elected CRs will elect other office-bearers, including president, vice president, secretary, joint secretary and five members of the executive council of the university, and the process was likely to be completed by late Wednesday night.

After reviewing all polling arrangements, Vice Chancellor Prof Sushma Yadav said the election was non-political and no outsider’s interference would be allowed. She asked the students to maintain democratic values.
