Backward Classes panel reconstituted in Haryana

Chandigarh, July 13

Following an announcement made by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the state government today reconstituted the Haryana Backward Classes Commission.

Former Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Darshan Singh will be the Chairman of the commission, while SK Gakhar, Shyam Lal Jangra and the Director General, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, will be its members.

Mukul Kumar, Special Secretary, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Department, will be its member-secretary.

The press note said the commission would study the present social, educational and economic conditions of the backward classes in the state. It would also assess their representation and participation in the government, benefits provided to the students from backward classes, employment opportunities available to them, besides recommending measures to increase employment opportunities for them.

It would also recommend proportion of reservation for backward classes in the panchayati raj institutions and municipalities.
