The Ambala police have claimed that the car that had overtaken Mullana BJP legislator Santosh Sarwan’s car on Monday last belonged to the range forest officer, Saha. He had no mala fide intentions and overtook the MLA’s car as he wanted to meet her.

However, the MLA has refused to buy the version and told the police that those who tried to attack her were different and she could identify them.

SP Abhishek Jorwal told The Tribune today that, “The MLA had informed us that a Maruti Swift car bearing number series resembling HR 01 AC had overtaken her car. According to information and CCTV camera footage, the CIA-1 team had identified the car as belonging to the range forest officer, Saha, whom the police said had no mala fide intentions. The forest officer during questioning disclosed that he was following the MLA’s car as he wanted to meet her. Later he overtook the car and parked it on the roadside”.

“The officer has also identified the location and it is the same place where the MLA had spotted the car. The forest officer has also spoken before the MLA but she has claimed that there were some other persons with weapons. The investigation is still on,” he added.

“How can a government employee stop an MLA’s car in this manner? I have told the police that people who tried to attack me were different and I could identify them,” Sarwan asked.

She said, “My security has been increased. The matter is still being investigated and nothing is confirmed. It will be better if the accused are arrested after the investigation is completed”.

On Monday, Sarwan had claimed threat to her life after a car overtook her car. She had also claimed that that car’s occupants were carrying weapons. On her complaint, a case was registered at Barara police station against four persons, including BJP mandal president Krishan Rana.

She had accused Labour and Employment Minister Nayab Singh Saini of shielding those responsible for the alleged attack on her. Meanwhile, Krishan Rana has refuted the allegation and said it was a conspiracy against him.

RSS and BJP workers in Barara have also come out in support of Rana. They held a meeting on Thursday where they said such things demoralised party workers. RSS district in charge Ashok Bansal has also extended support to Rana.
